Shanaz Dorsett – Don’t Let Me

Shanaz Dorsett is a Londoner in her twenties who debuted in 2010 with an EP Above The Clouds in which she sang over the beats made by legendary DJ Premier of Gang Starr. Later on she began working with Remot and EOM, two American producers. Don’t Let Me is a soulful r&b jam that resulted from the collaboration with the latter one who provided a perfectly delicate beat which together with Dorsett’s amazing vocal performance creates a wonderful track.

Michael Bird – News

Michael Bird is a promising musician from Leeds who decided to reinterpret and refine one of his old tracks. He published News almost a year ago but it sounded more like a demo at the time. Now we are able to listen to a proper version of the song which turned into a wonderfully polished tune with every detail taken to the highest level – there is an excellent soul vocal and a great relaxing beat.

Kweku Collins – Wierdo

It would not be surprising for anyone to read that the genre that appears on OSoM is mostly electronic music but probably some of you have noticed that soul or hip hop like sounds have also made it here from time to time. That is why I was more than happy to discover Wierdo, a debut release from Chicago-based teenager Kweku Collins.

The artist is just 16 years old but has already managed to find a perfect balance between elements of rap, soul and hip hop. Kweku has found his musical home at The Dope Supremacy which is a collective of skateboarders, musicians and artists and on some tracks he used the help from other producers (Jack MKZ, Adam Rubman and Dazed for Daze) but I am sure that with time this boy will be able to achieve really big things even on his own.

Willis Earl Beal – Coming Through (featuring Cat Power)

Two singles from the upcoming album of Willis Earl Beal have been already released but it is the third one that got me excited the most. It is not because the previous ones were disappointing – because they were not at all – but I guess this is the way the artist tried to build the tension around his album Nobody Knows – namely by publishing the new songs with each one being more expressive than the other.

It all started with minimalistic ballad Everything unwinds and just one month later the pulsing and bluesy Too Dry To Cry was published. Those two tracks clearly indicated that Willis got rid of the lo-fi sound of his debut album Acousmatic Sorcery (well, after all, it is XL Recordings studio that he has been recently using) but fortunately emotions are still present in his music. The third single is called Coming Through and it brings vocal appearance of Cat Power but the fact that is even more surprising is that this track actually sounds… optimistic which in case of Beal is not a common thing.

Sango – Middle of Things, Beautiful Wife (featuring SPZRKT)

Middle of Things, Beautiful Wife is a soulful track which is an effect of cooperation between Sango and SPZRKT, two rising artists from the USA. The roles are clearly specified – as a promising beatmaker Sango took care of the sound and SPZRKT recorded great vocals. Both things done at the highest level!
