saw u – Tactual Patterns

It takes you fifteen minutes to get to school, work or university and you do not know how to make use of this time? Here comes a ready solution – put on your best headphones and let Tactual Patterns change the commute nightmare into exciting journey to the land of techno.

The author of this captivating composition is Ross Dekker, an American artist who – besides publishing music under the moniker saw u – is also engaged in creating sound background for audiovisual projects. It is due to this latter activity that he moved to Berlin in 2013 as he was invited there by the temporary video art gallery Black Janice for the two-month residency. The musician lives in the capital of Germany until this day although initially he did not intend to stay there any longer. And who knows – maybe Ross Dekker would not be able to create such monumental raw techno track if it was not for the inspiration coming from the vibrant Berlin techno scene?

Dario Zenker – Mörsin EP

You may not notice this at the first glance but there are actually many similarities between Rawaat’s EP that we featured in our last entry and the release that we want to present to you right now. First of all, Dario Zenker also runs a label (Ilian Tape) and he is doing it with a little help from his brother Marco. What is more, Dario’s brand new EP called Mörsin is released via the London-based imprint too (in this case The Trilogy Tapes) and it his debut EP for this label as well.

However, the thing that counts the most – namely the sound – slightly differs these two artists. Although for both titles the genre can be classified as techno, Zenker’s tracks bring more raw and industrial beats. But fortunately there is one more thing that links the German producer to his Canadian fellow – his EP is also full of top quality music!

Rawaat – Day Laborer EP

We do things in our lives that do not make us happy and they consume so much time that there is nothing left for what we would like to do. That is what has been happening to me throughout the last year but fortunately I still manage to listen to a lot of music, although not necessarily being able to find time to write about it. Anyway, OSOM is back.

And there is a very good reason to write again as young and mysterious Detroit producer and head of Crisis Urbana imprint Rawaat has released his first EP for Lobster Theremin just few weeks ago. It is called Day Laborer and will take on a journey from the dreamy ambient opener track to the excellent housey remix of the title track made by Huerco S. Hypnotizing stuff!

MIKROBI.T – Berlin

MIKROBI.T is the name of a Polish band whose members try to mix electronic music with the sound of jazz which may draw the obvious comparisons to Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble or remixes of Hauschka’s work but do not let that fool you – the style of this Poznan-based collective proves to be really fresh. Their debut album called Binary Beats has been released last month and among others it features that one amazing song which particularly caught my attention. Its name is Berlin (which is enough to excite me) and it is a deadly catchy instrumental composition that I would classify as… jazzy techno? Does something like this even exist?

Mean Seed Records – Colours #1 EP

We did feature an act from Finland once on OSOM but actually we have never had a chance to take a closer look at the local scene. Fortunately, a ready guide through the country’s finest beats has just appeared in the form of a compilation called Colours which has been created by Mean Seed Records. No matter if it is a housey taste of Stene’s Low & Broken, catchy vocal samples on Oukawamine’s Pressure, techno sound in Dullatron’s Interloper or a heavy bass from Totrox’ When I, we are privileged to listen to the excellent tracks from the heart of icy Finland in just one release.
