2009 was the year of huge debuts – Florence and the Machine and La Roux released albums that were smashing hits all around the world and by many are considered to be in absolute top of the decade. However, there was one artist who beat those albums (and also the ones released by Kasabian, The Horrors or Friendly Fires) to win prestigous Mercury Prize. To find that artist you may be looking through the charts and the lists of world-wide selling albums – you will not find her there. Her stage name is Speech Debelle.
As for an artist who won Mercury Prize she definitely has not got attention she deserves. This year her second album called Freedom of Speech has been out and that is a chance to convince yourself that she is a great musician.
